It’s probably well-known that some traditions desire weddings to be held when it rains. Rains are thought of as a symbol of good luck. But dealing with rains, especially strong rains on the wedding day itself, could present a hassle. It pays to be prepared for any kind of eventuality, especially weather. When you desire lucky rains on your wedding day, make sure you’re ready to deal with it when it pours.

1. If you know it will rain, make sure you have a roof over your head. Of course, in the Philippines, it is common to avoid a venue in the open. Yet remembering to have a roof when you have a garden or patio is something dictated by need. Also, prepare for strong wind, because that can also be a sudden challenge that comes along with sudden rain.

2. Make sure your dress is prepared for that emergency. Skip the huge, cumbersome dresses and loads of veils when you know it will pour. No umbrella might be big enough for a dress with a wider circumference. Or, you could have an adaptable dress: in case of rain, layers of the dress could be removed for a much slimmer, rain-evading dress.

3. Always watch the weather during the wait towards the wedding day. Remember this country’s climate, that it could rain only a few hours after it was sweltering hot.

4. Make weather a part of Plan B’s. You would plan for a highly decorated wedding in the garden. But when the dark clouds suddenly come, you could ask for a movie to a roofed venue and just have that roof up in the garden. A tent venue could help when you need to make a compromise.

5. Remember traffic is a part of weather problems. When it rains, traffic usually builds up in Manila. When choosing venues, take note of accessibility and tendency for traffic buildup when it rains. Better have the ceremony and reception at the same place, or if it can’t be helped, make sure the trip between the venues is easy.

6. Remember your service providers, such as the caterers and design services. Even they can be affected by the weather. Don’t expect them to by gung-ho or sacrificing when it comes to the weather getting bad. Show some consideration.

7. Always keep a good attitude whatever the weather. If the weather brings you down, the attitude could bleed to the guests. If you are able to hold it together despite the weather (and other situations too), you could still have a great wedding.
